The Johnstown community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Lynda Marrone, 62, who died in a devastating house fire early Thursday morning in the Moxham section of the city. According to Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees, emergency responders were called to the 500 block of Highland Avenue shortly after dawn, where heavy smoke and flames engulfed a three-story residence. Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours before making entry to search the home. Marrone was discovered inside her third-floor apartment, located in the living room area near the doorway.
Despite efforts to reach her, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Lees confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death, although early reports indicate that smoke inhalation may have been a factor. Neighbors described Marrone as a kind and friendly woman who had lived in the community for many years. Many gathered outside the home as investigators from the Johnstown Fire Department and the State Police Fire Marshal’s Office began examining the scene to determine how the fire started.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, and officials say there is no immediate indication of foul play. The tragedy has left residents shaken, as they remember a beloved neighbor whose warmth and generosity touched many lives. Funeral arrangements for Lynda Marrone will be announced by her family at a later date.
