The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office has identified the man fatally shot earlier this week in Central City as 41-year-old Carl Jones. The deadly incident occurred near South Claiborne Avenue, a location that has seen multiple violent crimes in recent months, according to New Orleans police. Authorities say officers were called to the scene after reports of gunfire rang out in the area. Upon arrival, officers found Jones suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite emergency medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives with the New Orleans Police Department’s Homicide Unit are leading the investigation. While the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, police have not released any information regarding possible suspects or arrests. Officials are urging anyone with knowledge of the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry. Residents of Central City expressed concern over the continued gun violence that has disrupted their community.
Several neighbors described hearing several shots late at night but said they were afraid to leave their homes until police arrived. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed Jones’ identity and said an autopsy will determine the exact cause and manner of death. Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to contact Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
