The deadly incident occurred near South Claiborne Avenue, a location that has seen multiple violent crimes in recent months, according to New Orleans police. Despite emergency medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives with the New Orleans Police Department’s Homicide Unit are leading the investigation. While the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, police have not released any information regarding possible suspects or arrests. Officials are urging anyone with knowledge of the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry. Residents of Central City expressed concern over the continued gun violence that has disrupted their community.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed Jones’ identity and said an autopsy will determine the exact cause and manner of death. Despite efforts to reach her, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Lees confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death, although early reports indicate that smoke inhalation may have been a factor. Neighbors described Marrone as a kind and friendly woman who had lived in the community for many years. Many gathered outside the home as investigators from the Johnstown Fire Department and the State Police Fire Marshal’s Office began examining the scene to determine how the fire started.

Police arrested Antonio Serrano, 29, at the location shortly after the incident. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Serrano pointing a firearm at employees before shooting Donovan. During questioning, Serrano allegedly told investigators he had consumed eight beers prior to the shooting and confronted Donovan over a personal dispute involving a former partner. Serrano has been charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Authorities emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
